It’s probably better you didn’t know that David Benioff wrote the screenplay for the atrocious Wolverine movie. But this fact becomes irrelevant from the first page of the wonderful City of Thieves. Follow a boy trying to become a man in besieged Russia during WWII. Add many dirty jokes, crazy characters, genuine horror, tender first loves, a ludicrous mission, and general sidekickery, and you have a solid book. The chapters breeze by and the heartstrings get tugged. Way better than any WWII story about Logan and Cap.
