Author: David Mitchell
Type: Fiction, novel
I read it: October 2012
This books is as good as everyone says it is. So if you are like me and have been hearing about it for years, go for it. Six great stories with an exceptional pinnacle in “Sloosha’s Crossin’ and Ev’rythin’ After.” I read that section twice this year–once out loud, which was a lot of fun. Glad I got it in just in time to not have any images pre-planted by the movie.

Movie opinion: The movie was about as good as Hollywood is going to get with something like this. It was all very neat to see the worlds unfold, but what did they gain by sacrificing the structure of the book? I think the film would have been very confusing to someone who had not recently read the book, because they jumped around so damn often. Nothing ever settled, so there were no cool connecting moments. Also, why do so many big-budget movies rely on corny old-person/cross-dressing/monster makeup? An appropriate actor for the role would suffice. Anyway…it is what it is.
