Not the best outing from King. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t a terrible collection. It’s kicked off by “Willa,” a tenderly sweet ghost story. Other strong entries are the psychological “N.” and the awesome “Ayana.” But it just doesn’t hold up to previous collections like Everything’s Eventual. Some of the stories seem like pure filler and some, like “The Things They Left Behind,” take a serious subject and ruin it by including misplaced supernatural subplots. Glad I bought it, but also glad I didn’t rush for the hardcover the previous year.
